Description

The Blackmer SGL Series high-speed sliding vane pump is a ductile iron pump built for the transfer and recirculation of refrigerants and other liquefied gases. It is part of Blackmer's Cavitation Line, engineered specifically for high vapor pressure liquids, and it uses a cavitation suppression liner to cut the noise, vibration and wear that entrained vapor normally causes. Shock resistant ductile iron construction and a wide choice of mechanical seal materials make it suitable for almost any liquefied gas service.

The sliding vane, positive displacement design primes readily and holds its performance across a wide range of temperatures and differential pressures. The vanes self adjust as they wear, so the pump keeps delivering like a new one instead of losing flow over time. Vanes, liner and end discs are all replaceable, which means the pumping chamber can be rebuilt to like new condition rather than replaced.

Available Models

Model Port Size Nominal Flow Range Shipping Weight
SGRL1.25A 1.25 inch NPT 5 to 16 gpm (19 to 61 L/min) 32 lb (15 kg)

SGRL1.25A, SGL1.25A, SGL1.5A 9-3/8 in (238.1 mm) 9-1/8 in (231.8 mm) 9-1/8 in (231.8 mm) 29 lb (13.2 kg)

Pump weight is the bare pump. The 32 lb (15 kg) figure shown against each model above is the shipping weight and is what the freight quote is based on.

Applications

Butadiene, butene, dimethyl ether, ethyl chloride, sulfur dioxide, refrigerants including MF, TA, TMS and TF, and most 400 and 500 series refrigerant blends. For a fluid not listed here, call and we will check it against Blackmer's chemical compatibility data before you order.

Seal Selection

The mechanical seal is the choice that matters most on a liquefied gas pump, because it sets the elastomer that has to live with your fluid and your temperature. Four seal configurations are offered, and all four are available on all three models.

Code Seal Materials Elastomer Temperature Limit Notes
BL Steel / HNBR / Carbon / HNBR (SJCJ) -30 F to 240 F (-34 C to 115 C) Standard. The widest temperature band and the usual choice for refrigerant service.
S0 Steel / FKM / Carbon / FKM (SVCV) -15 F to 240 F (-26 C to 115 C) No cost alternative for fluids that call for a fluorocarbon elastomer.
BN Steel / Neoprene / Carbon / Neoprene (SPCP) -30 F to 240 F (-34 C to 115 C) No cost alternative for services suited to neoprene.
BM Steel / PTFE / Carbon / Kalrez (SACK) 0 F to 240 F (-18 C to 115 C) Premium chemical resistance for aggressive specialty gases.

Rotation

Rotation is viewed from the driven end of the shaft and has to match the driver you are coupling to, so it is selected at order time rather than changed later. Right hand (CW) is the standard build and left hand (CCW) is available at no additional cost. Both are offered on all three models.

Configuration Options

The options below are set at the factory when your pump is built. They are not part of the online selection, so call to specify them and we will build the order around what your service needs. Call to Order (262) 646-4500.

Option Choices
Vanes Duravane (standard) or Laminate. Duravane covers -25 F to 240 F, laminate covers -30 F to 240 F. Laminate carries an upcharge.
Relief valve Iron relief valve (standard) or corrosion resistant relief valve. Every SGL ships with an adjustable internal relief valve, so this is a material choice rather than an add or omit choice.
Relief valve spring 51 to 80 psi (standard) or 81 to 150 psi. Both ranges are the same price. Call to specify the range that matches your system pressure.
O-rings (pump body) HNBR (standard), fluorocarbon FKM, PTFE, or neoprene. Worth matching to the seal choice above, so call and we will confirm the pair.
Standard construction fields Coded 0000 on every pump. Required for pump identification.
Flanges Tapped NPT ports, standard on every model. No alternative connection style is offered on this series.
Accessories None offered on the base pump.

Integrated Unit Assemblies

Blackmer offers a direct mount unit assembly for the SGL 1.25 inch and 1.5 inch pumps. The assembly supplies the base, coupling and coupling guard ready to receive the pump and motor, and is available across the 56, 143T, 145T, 184, 182T, 184T, 215, 213T and 215T motor frames. Pump and motor are priced separately from the assembly. Call to Order (262) 646-4500.

Maintenance Kits

One maintenance kit covers all three models. Rebuild kits are model specific, so match the kit to the pump on your nameplate.

Model Kit Type Part Number
SGRL1.25A, SGL1.25A, SGL1.5A Maintenance Kit 898733
SGRL1.25A Rebuild Kit 898832
SGL1.25A Rebuild Kit 898833
SGL1.5A Rebuild Kit 898834

If you are not sure which kit your pump takes, have the serial number ready and call. Call to Order (262) 646-4500.

Replacement Parts

Individual wear parts are stocked as well, so a single vane or o-ring does not mean buying a whole kit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Blackmer SGL Series high-speed sliding vane pumps suitable for liquefied gas transfer applications?
The Blackmer SGL Series high-speed sliding vane pumps are specifically engineered for the transfer and recirculation of refrigerants and liquefied gases, featuring shock-resistant ductile iron construction and a cavitation suppression liner that reduces noise, vibration, and wear from entrained vapor, making them ideal for liquefied gas transfer systems.
How does the cavitation suppression liner improve the performance of these high-speed sliding vane pumps?
The cavitation suppression liner in these high-speed sliding vane pumps cuts down on cavitation-related noise, vibration, and wear caused by entrained vapor, helping to maintain consistent performance and extend the pump's service life in challenging vapor pressure conditions.
What are the available seal options for the high-speed sliding vane pumps, and how do they differ?
The pump offers four seal options: BL (HNBR elastomer suitable for refrigerant service), S0 (fluorocarbon FKM elastomer for certain fluids), BN (neoprene elastomer), and BM (premium Kalrez for aggressive gases). Each is selected based on temperature and chemical compatibility requirements specific to your application.
