Description

The Blackmer HXL Series is a line of Heavy Duty ductile iron sliding vane pumps built for refineries, terminal operations, and barge- or ship-loading applications. All models are constructed of ductile iron (ASTM 536), which withstands sudden thermal shock and stress well beyond the capabilities of cast iron, and are fitted with replaceable casing liners and end discs that allow easy rebuilding of the pumping chamber without removing the pump from the piping. Models are available in 6-, 8-, and 10-in ANSI flanged port sizes with maximum rated capacities of 755, 1,200, and 2,080 gpm (171, 273, 472 m3/h) respectively. The HXLJ8G is the jacketed version of the 8-in model, adding heated heads for high-viscosity and high-temperature service. Standard elastomers are FKM O-rings, and every pump ships with Blackmer's internal relief valve, already included in the prices shown above.

Choose Your Model

HXL6G

The HXL6G is the smallest model in the series, a 6-in ANSI flanged pump rated for a nominal flow of 90 to 750 gpm (341 to 2,839 L/min). It ships at approximately 840 lb including the internal relief valve. Seal type and flange connection are both selectable above; other options ship in Blackmer's standard configuration unless you call in.

HXL8G

The HXL8G is the 8-in model, rated for a nominal flow of 145 to 1,190 gpm (549 to 4,505 L/min). It ships at approximately 1,100 lb including the internal relief valve. Seal type and flange connection are both selectable above.

HXLJ8G

The HXLJ8G is the jacketed version of the 8-in model, adding heated heads for high-viscosity and high-temperature service; it shares the same 145 to 1,190 gpm (549 to 4,505 L/min) flow range as the HXL8G. It ships at approximately 1,260 lb including the internal relief valve. This model ships with the Bronze seal (AC) only, Blackmer does not offer the Carbon seal (AA) on the jacketed head casting; flange connection is still selectable above.

HXL10E

The HXL10E is the largest and highest capacity model in the series, a 10-in ANSI flanged pump rated for a nominal flow of 430 to 2,080 gpm (1,628 to 7,874 L/min). It ships at approximately 2,800 lb including the internal relief valve. Seal type is selectable above; this model ships with the Integral ANSI Flange only; Blackmer does not offer the NPT companion flange or capscrews-and-gasket-only options on this size.

Configuration Options

Seal type and flange connection are selectable right on this page using the dropdowns above; any change to the base list price shows automatically. Vane material, rotation, relief valve type (except on HXL10E, see below), relief valve spring range, and O-ring elastomer are not selectable online because of catalog system limits and Shopify's 3-option cap; every pump ships in Blackmer's standard configuration for those unless you call us at (262) 646-4500 with the code you need and we will quote and build the order for you.

Relief valve: Blackmer does not offer a no-relief-valve option on any HXL model, so the internal relief valve is already built into every price shown above (adding $2,970 to base on HXL6G, HXL8G, and HXLJ8G, and $8,290 to base on HXL10E). HXL6G, HXL8G, and HXLJ8G ship with the internal relief valve only, no other type is available. HXL10E offers two additional relief valve types by special order, both call-in only: an external relief valve at $7,200 over base (actually cheaper than the internal valve used in the price above) and an internal relief valve with manual bypass valve assembly at $15,700 over base.

Relief valve spring range is a no-cost option, shown in the range used for the prices above; other ranges are available per model by request.

Integrated Unit Assemblies and Gear Reducers

Every price above is for the base pump only. Blackmer also offers fully engineered Integrated Unit Assemblies that pair an HXL (or HXLJ) pump with a gearbox, motor, baseplate, and coupling safety covers as a pre-aligned, drop-in package requiring no field alignment. Pricing is by pump model, gearbox drive ratio, and motor frame size:

Pump Model(s) Gearbox Ratio Range Compatible Motor Frames Gearbox + Frame Adder
HXL6G SK 62-W 6.35:1 to 11.6:1 (5 ratios) 284T/286T, 324T/326T, 364T/365T $23,370
HXL8G, HXLJ8G SK 72-W 5.60:1 to 10.84:1 (6 ratios) 284T/286T, 324T/326T, 364T/365T $26,670 to $27,830 (varies by ratio)

This is dozens of ratio and motor frame combinations per model, too many to list as web options; call us at (262) 646-4500 with your ratio and motor frame requirements and we will quote the complete assembly.

Features and Benefits

  • Ductile-iron construction with bolt-on, internal relief valve
  • Internal mechanical seals run at reduced speeds, allowing extended dry run without failure and continuous operation with non-lubricating liquids
  • Replaceable casing liners and end discs allow easy rebuilding of the pumping chamber to like-new condition without removing the pump from the piping
  • High volumetric efficiency and symmetrical bearing support mean less required horsepower than other positive displacement pumps, saving on motor operation and electricity
  • Blackmer mechanical seal and ball bearing construction provide maximum reliability
  • Symmetrical bearing support assures even loading and wear for long life
  • Adjustable relief valve protects the pump against excessive pressures
  • External ball bearings are isolated from pumpage by mechanical seals, maximizing bearing life and minimizing contamination risk
  • Sliding-vane design self-adjusts for wear to maintain flow rates over the life of the pump
  • Excellent self-priming and dry-run capability, with high suction lift and line-stripping capability
  • Vanes can be replaced without removing the pump from the piping system, keeping maintenance simple and life-cycle costs low

Applications

HXL Series pumps are used in refineries, terminal operations, and barge- or ship-loading applications to transfer crude oils and Bunker C, HFO (heavy fuel oil), waste oils, fertilizers, greases, lube oils, molasses, and asphalt.
